Shamsud-Din became widely known after perpetrating a vehicle-ramming attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 1, 2025. The attack occurred during New Year’s celebrations, and it resulted in the deaths of more than 10 people and injured at least 35 others.

He was killed in a confrontation with police after the attack. Authorities found potential improvised explosive devices and an ISIS flag inside the vehicle he was driving. The FBI launched an investigation into the incident, treating it as an act of terrorism.
