Saurabh Dwivedi’s life took a turn when he gathered the guts to tell his parents he was done with science. Humanities spoke to his soul, and he wanted to dive deeper into it. That single brave choice kicked off his journey to being a bold, celebrated name in Hindi digital journalism in India. In this article, we’ll dig into his iteresting journey, one part at a time.
His family has a political background
Saurabh Dwivedi was born on April 22, 1983, in Chamari, a small village in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.1 His father, Ravikant Dwivedi, was a retired professor and also a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which made political discussions a natural part of Saurabh’s world.
He began his schooling at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, a school run by the RSS in India.
Interestingly, Saurabh Dwivedi first pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Dayanand Vedic College, Orai under parental pressure. However, after graduation, he found himself directionless and unsure of his future as his true passion was to study Hindi literature.2
This interest led him to crack the entrance exam for Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where he earned a Master’s degree in Hindi in 2006.

After his MA, Saurabh went for a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Delhi, completing it in 2007. He also pursued an MPhil in Hindi Literature from JNU, which he completed in 2010.
After completing his education, Dwivedi started working at Navbharat Times and later at Dainik Bhaskar. In 2013, he switched to the India Today group. By 2013, he jumped to the India Today group.3
Hindi digital content was blowing up with Indian people back then, and the group wanted in. They needed someone who could spin great stories and get the Hindi heartland’s beat—Saurabh fit the bill.
He founded Lallantop in 2016
In 2016, Saurabh took a bold step and founded The Lallantop, a digital news platform of the India Today Group that aimed to give Hindi news a fresh and interesting feel. Under his leadership, The Lallantop soon became a hit with young and rural folks.
It used popular slang that the younger generation speaks, embraced a “Desi” style, and presented topics in fun and engaging ways to give complete knowledge. Shows Saurabh hosted on Lallantop, like Duniyadari and Netagagri, got a big following online and he got named “Best Anchor on Digital News Channel” at the ENBA 2020 awards.
His Old Tweets Got Him in Controversy Twice
In January 2020, Saurabh found himself amid controversy after tweeting a meme related to a condom brand that targeted BJP supporters. This tweet sparked outrage, especially among BJP supporters, and Saurabh eventually deleted the tweet and issued an apology.
Then in October 2022, some old tweets of his, seen as poking fun at Rahul Gandhi, popped up again online and he said sorry for how he worded them. These incidents highlight his growth over his long journalism career and his flexible approach in life—one that allows for mistakes, accepting them without ego, and correcting them, something many famous people struggle with.
His Love Grew into Marriage

While studying jouralism, Saurabh met the love for his life- Gunjan. While so many love stories falter before getting to lifelong commitment, the pair held strong to each other and got married in 2010.
Gunjan works as a teacher, and her support has been instrumental in balancing the demands of Saurabh’s high-pressure career. They have two children, daughter, Gaura, who is frequently mentioned in his social media posts and a son, whose name has not been publicly shared.
