Champai Soren has resigned as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister, making way for former Chief Minister Hemant Soren to return. This unexpected move has shaken up the state’s political scene, especially as elections are on the horizon.
Champai Soren handed his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan, ending his term. Later he talked to the press and said, “A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minster”.
Hemant Soren also talked to the media persons regarding this latest change in the leadership.

His departure comes at a crucial time, stirring up the politics in Jharkhand. Now, all eyes are on Hemant Soren, who is set to take back his position after getting bail in a money laundering case.
Champai Soren’s time as Chief Minister was short but full of challenges. He took office during a difficult period, managing the state’s issues amidst political turmoil. His leadership was seen as a temporary phase, but his resignation signals a big change.
Hemant Soren’s return is being seen as a new beginning for Jharkhand. Known for his developmental projects in his previous terms, Hemant’s leadership is expected to focus on improving the state’s infrastructure and welfare.
Jharkhand’s politics are known for being complicated, with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party, which both Sorens are part of, playing a key role. The JMM’s influence is significant, and this leadership change is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen their position before the elections.
BJP reacts to Champai Soren’s resignation
Reactions to Champai’s resignation and Hemant’s comeback are mixed. Supporters of the JMM see it as a smart move to boost the party’s chances in the elections. Critics, however, are suspicious, questioning the timing and reasons behind this change.
BJP’s leader and Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on twitter,”The removal of a senior tribal leader from the post of Chief Minister in Jharkhand by the JMM and Congress party is deeply distressing. I am certain that the people of Jharkhand will strongly condemn this action and firmly reject it.”
Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said to ANI, “Hemant Soren is again all set to become the chief minister and unceremoniously he has removed the present chief minister, Champai Soren from his post…Hemant Soren is likely to take over as the next chief minister in the next couple of days. We think it’s an insult to the tribals of the state of Jharkhand because, for the Soren family, nobody outside the family has any right, be it a tribal, be it a non-tribal, to become the chief minister. The power remains restricted to the family and that is a sad state of affairs….”
Jharkhand has seen many political changes, and this latest development adds to its ongoing story. As the state gets ready for elections, the JMM’s plans will be watched closely. Decisions made in the next few months could shape Jharkhand’s future.
Across India, this political drama is grabbing attention, showing the lively and changing nature of Indian democracy. The resignation of Champai and Hemant’s return highlights the constant shifts in political power and the search for leadership that meets the people’s needs.
As Jharkhand goes through this change, the focus will be on Hemant Soren’s leadership and the JMM’s election strategies. This unfolding political story promises to keep not just the people of Jharkhand but the entire nation interested, showing the ever-changing landscape of Indian politics.
