Matthew Livelsberger was a U.S. Army veteran from Colorado Springs, Colorado. However, his life ended when he was involved in the Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel on New Year’s Day 2025. He was 37 years old at the time of his death.
Education
Matthew’s education helped prepare him for his career in the military. As per his LinkedIn profile, he graduated from Norwich University in Vermont with a degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis. He did well in his studies, earning high honors and graduating summa cum laude.
Military Service
Matthew spent most of his career in the U.S. Army, where he served for 19 years. For 18 of those years, he was part of the Green Berets, the elite Special Forces unit. He enlisted in 2006, initially serving in the National Guard and Army Reserve for short periods. In late 2012, he returned to active duty to join Special Operations, where he eventually rose to the rank of master sergeant, a senior noncommissioned officer.
Livelsberger was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group, based at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, and most recently held the role of Special Forces operations sergeant.
Matthew Livelsberger’s military service took him to many different parts of the world. He served in many countries, including Afghanistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia, and Congo.
Matthew’s service didn’t go unnoticed. He was reportedly honored with two Bronze Stars during his service, one of which was awarded with a valor device for displaying courage under fire. He also received a Combat Infantry Badge and an Army Commendation Medal with valor.
Relationship
Matthew’s partner at one point was Sara Livelsberger. After the end of their marriage, he entered in a relationship with Alicia Arritt, but the pair broke up in 2022. Several media reports indicate that he remarried and fathered a child with another partner.
Death
On January 1, 2025, Matthew Livelsberger died in an explosion he caused outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. He used a rented Tesla Cybertruck loaded with explosives and shot himself before the vehicle exploded. At the time of his death, he was on leave from an assignment in Stuttgart, Germany.
