She is a pro at mimicking accents, playing the guitar, and even singing songs in different languages. With a following of 470k on Instagram, the world knows Ahilya Bamroo as a digital creator, but she surprised everyone with her powerful debut in the movie I Want To Talk in 2024.
Her Childhood Took Shape in Auroville’s Global Vibe
Ahilya was born in Mumbai, India, but she moved to Pondicherry as a kid. Most of her family stays in Mumbai, but her parents took her to Auroville, a town known as a spiritual and eco-friendly experimental community with folks from over 40 countries.1
She started school at Pondicherry Ashram school, where it wasn’t just about books but also about growing as a person and learning spiritually.
Ahilya picked up several languages there, like French, English, Sanskrit and Bengali, which let her connect with different cultures and ideas. Later, she went to a French-medium school in Pondicherry, where she got hooked on the dramatic arts.

Finding her Niche on Instagram
Ahilya got into singing, filmmaking, and acting back in her school days and started doing local performances in Auroville just for fun. She also self-taught herself to play guitar by watching YouTube videos.
It was right around then that social media spots like Instagram rolled out the short video ‘Reels’ idea. For her, it was a cool way to share her creativity—it was simple, didn’t need fancy gear, and she could do it from anywhere in the world.
As she lived around people of different nations, Ahilya was exposed to various cultures and accents while growing up. She turned this experience into a comedy bit on Instagram, using accents to poke at how people from different places handle the same situation.
People found it super relatable and hilarious, and she soon started picking up followers who loved her bubbly personality and fresh spin on things. This also opened doors to modeling jobs and online brand collabs, which brought her some cash flow, firing up her passions even more
An Instagram DM Landed Her in Hindi Films
Ahilya often shares that although she did theatre and plays all her life, she never found the confidence to try her luck in mainstream movies. She could not see any famous actress who looked or spoke like her, which gave her the impression that she would not do well if she tried to pursue that path.
After she got famous on Instagram, a casting director slid into her DMs with an offer for a Hindi movie role. She auditioned and came super close to landing the part, but it ended up going to a famous actress.2
This failed attempt lit a fire, convincing her that more auditions could get her somewhere in acting. She started giving auditions and finally landed her debut in the movie I Want To Talk, playing the daughter of actor Abhishek Bachchan.3 Ahilya’s performance in the film won tons of praise from fans and critics for its emotional depth and realness.

Her first film has already shown that she’s a talented actor, and her growing fame indicates that she’s a star in the making. As she continues to grow, she is sure to take on new challenges and explore even more creative opportunities.
