Sagar Khandre, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), emerged as a giant slayer during the recent elections. At just 26 years old, he avenged his father Eshwar Khandre’s defeat by triumphing over seasoned politician and incumbent Union Minister Bhagwanth Khuba.
Sagar Khandre garnered an impressive 6,66,317 votes, translating to 53.6% of the total votes. His opponent, BJP’s Bhagwant Khuba, received 5,35,766 votes, or 43.3%. Bhagwant Khuba, a two-term winner and former Union Minister, faced significant anti-incumbency sentiment and internal opposition regarding his candidacy.
Additionally, the pro-people programs initiated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar were liked by the voters in the state. Their guarantees and welfare schemes struck a chord, further bolstering Sagar’s campaign.
