As India gears up for the first phase of polling on 19 April 2024, the political winds in the country are blowing to their maximum speed. Bhartiya Janta Party, currently in power in the central government, and the key opposition party- Indian National Congress, both have presented their election manifestos to the public this month and people are comparing BJP vs Congress manifesto these days. Ready to woo different sections of society again, both parties have painted a rosy future, full of prosperity and development, if they came to power in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.
Currently, around 96.8 crore voters are expected to vote in the Lok Sabha Election 2024, with male voters – 49.7 crores, women voters- 47.1 crores, transgender voters- 48,000 crores. Around 10.5 lakh polling stations will be established for the elections this time too.

- Register gig workers on the e-Shram portal to help them avail benefits of various programs.
- Expand the PM Svanidhi scheme to cover street vendors and traveling salesmen.
- Implement a new scheme for truck drivers to develop modern facilities along highways.
- Enhance sanitation workers’ safety, respect, and livelihood by expanding the “Namaste Yojana” program.
- Auto, Taxi, Truck, and Other Drivers – 100% coverage in insurance and other Social Security Schemes
Congress:-
- Guarantee a national minimum wage of Rs. 400 per day.
- Increase wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to Rs. 400 per day.
- Launch a program guaranteeing work for the urban poor.
- Update ration card lists across all states immediately.
- Reform industrial and labor laws to achieve a better balance between labor and capital.
- Double the number of Anganwadi workers (government childcare providers) and create an additional 14 lakh jobs.
- Create a law to specify and protect the rights of gig workers and unorganized workers.

- Expanding Startup India Seed Fund Scheme and Startup Credit Guarantee Scheme, tie-ups with globally recognized mentors, linking startup ecosystem with higher education institutes, and encouraging startups in government procurement.
- Establish more Global Capability Centres (GCCs), Global Tech Centres (GTCs), and Global Engineering Centres (GECs).
- Launch a new program for sportspersons, providing educational, employment, and promotional opportunities.
Education
- Introduce more institutes like IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS.
- Adopt a dynamic learning curriculum at the school level as
mandated by NEP. - 100% implementation of ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ through the Automated
Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR). - Complete the target of setting up 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal children.
- Expand existing scholarships for meritorious students from OBC, SC, and ST communities.

Jobs and Startups
- Right to Apprenticeship Act-Guarantee a 1-year apprenticeship with a private or public company to diploma holders and college graduates under 25 years of age. ( will get Rs.1 Lakh a year)
- Fast-track courts for paper leak cases, compensation to victims
- No application fees for government examinations and posts
- Filling 30 lakh vacancies in the central government
- Restructure the Fund of Funds Scheme for start-ups, will make efforts to Allocate 50% of the funds equally among all districts to people under 40 for starting businesses.
- A “Sporting Heroes Job Guarantee” programme to assure every sportsperson who has represented India at the international level or the national level a good quality job after the end of the sportsperson’s sporting career
- At least one community sports center in every block and municipal town and at least one multi-sport coaching center in every district
- Adequate representation in each sports body for active players, former players, and women
Education
- All student educational loans will be written off (a one-time measure)
- Talent-based Scholarships of Rs. 10,000 per month to sportspersons’ under 21.
- Make Class I to XII free and compulsory in public schools by amendment in RTE.
- Amend the National Education Policy in consultation with state governments.
- Prohibit public schools from charging special fees.
- Increase the number of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas.
- Ensure scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, denotified tribes, and minorities are restored, increased, and fully funded.
- Provide free and unlimited internet on college and school campuses.
- Extend collateral-free education loans up to Rs. 7.5 lakh, especially to students belonging to the SC, ST, OBC, EWS and minorities
- Revisit the policy of NEET, CUET, etc., and make it optional for state governments to adopt or conduct their own examinations
- Fill all teaching and non-teaching vacancies in central universities and educational institutions.
Key Promises for Agriculture, Fishermen
BJP:-
- Continue to increase MSP from time to time.
- Continue annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
- Strengthen the PM Fasal Bima Yojana through more technological interventions.
- Launch the National Mission on Natural Farming to promote nature-friendly, climate-resilient, money-making agriculture.
- Expand the network of dairy cooperatives in villages in five years with facilities of fodder banks, milk testing laboratories, etc.
- Eliminate FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease)
- Launch Krishi Infrastructure Mission for projects like storage facilities, irrigation, cold storage, food processing, etc.
- Network of Grain Storage Facilities in Rural Areas in PACS with facilities for grading, sorting, processing, and packing.
- Upgrade all Krishi Vigyan Kendras into a one-stop center for skill development.
- Develop Production and Processing Clusters for Fishermen ( women in focus).
- Establishment of a network of Nucleus Breeding Centres and Brood Banks.
- Boost seaweed cultivation, promote pearl farming
- Extend the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana to increase fish production.
Congress:-
- Legal guarantee to the Minimum Support Prices (MSP).
- The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) will be made a statutory body.
- The MSP amount will be credited digitally to the bank account of the farmer.
- Crop Insurance Premium will be charged from the farmer according to the sum insured and all claims settlement within 30 days.
- Launch a major programme to install solar panels connected to tube wells to generate energy.
- Double the value of the output in dairying and poultry in five years.
- 1 agricultural college, and 1 veterinary college in every district ( in coordination with state governments.
- Increase the number of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and appoint more scientists to each Kendra.
- Restore the subsidy for diesel for sea-going fishing communities.
- Credit cards (like Kisan Credit Cards) by banks and extended credit.
- Direct insurance companies to provide insurance cover for sea-going fishing boats.
